As one of Colombia's most treasured natural resources and one of its most important exports, emeralds have long been part of the country's culture, history, and identity. From an early age, Tatiana developed an appreciation for the beauty and uniqueness of Colombian emeralds.
Unlike traditional jewelry retailers, Emeralds by Tatiana De La Torre is personally involved in the sourcing and selection process. Tatiana De La Torre travels to Colombia and works directly with trusted mining, cutting, and sourcing partners in the Muzo region, where she oversees the selection and quality control of every gemstone considered for our collection.

Understanding Emerald Quality
Every natural emerald is unique. Unlike diamonds, emeralds naturally contain internal characteristics known as inclusions. These inclusions are often referred to as the gemstone's “garden” because they create unique patterns within the stone. Tatiana evaluates every emerald according to four primary characteristics:
Rich green color
Medium to medium-dark tone
Strong color saturation
Even color distribution
Almost all natural emeralds contain inclusions. Tatiana inspects each stone to ensure inclusions do not detract from its beauty.

Because emeralds naturally contain microscopic fractures, most receive a traditional treatment using natural cedarwood oil. This improves appearance, enhances transparency, and reduces the visibility of fractures. Oil treatment is standard practice.
